The Story of Dimplex
Dimplex has been in the heating industry for around 70 years in one form or another. Starting out as the UK company Habin Ltd in 1946, they quickly became known for their high-quality rust-proof water-fed radiators. Changing their name to Dimplex in 1950, their unique expressed steel design quickly became the industry standard. Before then, radiators were made from cast iron, which was heavy, bulky, and ugly. These new steel heaters were relatively slimline, much lighter, and much more efficient – and they looked great!
This sense of style quickly became Dimplex’s main selling point and led to the business growing across the UK. They also had an eye for innovation, creating radiant heaters, skirting board heaters, and copper radiators throughout the 60s. This caught the interest of the Irish heating and air conditioning giant Glen Electric, who bought out Dimplex in 1977. The companies merged, becoming GlexDimplex, with Dimplex staying on as a subsidiary heating brand.
As part of the GlexDimplex group, Dimplex went from strength to strength until it was a globally-recognised leader in the heating industry. It now has a base in every continent except Antarctica, but its headquarters are still located in Dublin to this day.
